excellent academics social curriculum Tiller school is a community of learners that serves as a model of congeniality open communication and trust. Tiller School classrooms foster an atmosphere that is safe respectful and open to intellectual risk-taking. Tiller believes that how children learn is as important as what they learn process and content go hand in hand. Tiller is a Responsive Classroom school where the social curriculum is as important as the academic curriculum. The greatest cognitive growth occurs through social interaction. Tiller believes to be successful academically and socially children need a set of social skills: Cooperation Assertion Responsibility Empathy and Self-control. Tiller believes in knowing the children we teach-individually culturally and developmentally-is as important as knowing the content we teach. Tiller also fosters family engagement where families work as a partner in education. Tiller School follows the North Carolina Standard Course of Study in mathematics language arts technology and science and participates in the North Carolina End of Grade testing program. The social studies instruction centers around the concepts of a global community through the ED Hirsch program. There is a strong emphasis on the arts not only as they are integrated into the daily learning in the classrooms but students also attend formal classes each week in these areas.
